Cancer Care Travel to RD&E

The Tarka line and H2 bus take about the same time as a car or taxi (fastest train 55 mins average 1hr 9 mins) and can be bought with a “Plus-Bus” unlimited bus ticket (the H2 bus goes from the station straight to RD&E’s front door). This is all wheelchair accessible to the door of RD&E with no parking worries and considerably less costs. Daily off Peak return is £10.90 with unlimited Bus Travel in Exeter for £2.80. Costs may be refunded

If the patient is on low income they can reclaim “reasonable” costs under the national Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme HTCS click here

Finally the CCG funds a car-based service for any patient attending healthcare more than three times a week or ten times a month which is assessed and booked by the clinical centres. This would cover repetitive treatment regimens but not one-off appointments where the patient can get into a car. Patients can get advice on the Patient Transport Advice Service 0345 155 1009 based in Exeter but dedicated to NHS transport across Devon.
