Exmoor Perambulation

Exmoor 15 mile Perambulation

Well, they only went and completed the 15 mile Exmoor Perambulation!

A huge well done to Team Brannam - Oliver Hassall, Ed Matthews, Tim Chesworth, Sarah Street, Suzanne Smit, Peter Aboulesaad, Susie Wheaton and Sarah Bickley - and an extra special shout out to our amazing Nurse Lucy Foley-Norman, who ran the 30 miles!!!!!

What an incredible achievement and a truly meaningful way to remember and honour Charlie, our First Contact Physio, who sadly passed away in March 2024. . In wonderful weather over challenging terrain, the team raised a glass for Charlie and for the excellent volunteers of Exmoor Search & Rescue Team - the organisation Charlie so passionately gave his time to.

These super troopers have already raised a massive £869 in support of Exmoor Search & Rescue Team and every penny goes towards helping them continue their vital work.

Thank you to everyone who donated and supported the team - your generosity means a lot!

Anti-Social Behaviour

Last week, staff at Brannam Medical Centre had to call the Police 3 times to help deal with anti social behaviour either at or next to our premises.

Anti-social behaviour puts our staff and patients at risk and wastes precious time that could be used to support patients.

We remain committed to trying to make visits to our surgery as comfortable as possible, and we will continue to contact the authorities as required.

Thank you for your understanding.

We will find out the winner in December but we are delighted to be shortlisted. We set this service up from scratch across our 4 practices to support patients newly diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and it is running very successfully.

GP collective

GP Collective Action

Following the recent British Medical Association (BMA) ballot, which you may have heard about in the press, we are writing to explain what this means for our patients and the future of General Practice.

GPs have for years been doing work that is not funded, and not contracted due to gaps in commissioned services and pressures in secondary care services; we have been doing so out of concern for our patients and to ensure that you continue to receive the care you deserve. However, with chronic underfunding and increased demand it is no longer sustainable for GPs to continue working in this way.

Since 2015 we have seen 1600 Practices close or merge, there are 6 million more registered patients and 2000 fewer full time equivalent GPs across the country. Our funding levels are significantly lower than 2018 levels. This means we must now focus on the safety and stability of our service going forwards. Collective action is about working legitimately within our contracts. You may have heard this referred to in the press as industrial action; this is factually incorrect. We will not be doing anything that compromises your safety, and we will not currently be going on strike.

We hope you understand that we are taking this action to ensure that general practice locally, in Devon and across England is there for our patients in years to come.

RCGP Active Practice

As an RCGP Active Practice we are always looking at improving activity levels in our staff and patients.

There was no better way to do this than a little charity netball tournament at Park School in the glorious sunshine. We had staff from all departments representing Team Brannams - GPs, nurses, reception, pharmacy, admin and management.

Award Winners!!

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Brannam Medical Centre has been awarded the Excellence and Innovation in Clinical Teaching Award 2022-2023 from the University of Exeter, an award that was presented to one GP surgery across the whole of Devon.

It was noted that whilst General Practice is under national strain; Brannam Medical Centre has shown continued excellence in teaching and training, which has been approached with energy and enthusiasm despite the current challenges of the profession.

A special mention was given to Dr Amy Parkinson and Dr Harry Cormack for being inspiring and dedicated educators for both trainees and medical students. A special mention was also given to Whitney Cullen, who facilitated the students transition into their general practice placements with excellent communication, timetabling and inclusively integrating the students with our wonderful team at Brannam.

We are truly proud that our dedication to the high quality training of Devon’s future doctors has been recognised through this Devon-wide award.

Dr Amy Parkinson and Whitney Cullen were able to attend the Award Ceremony at St Mellion International Resort this week, to receive this award on behalf of the practice.
