Help with NHS costs
In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 12 items in a year, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC. Find out how to save money with a PPC here. You can also apply using the PPC order line on 0300 330 1341.
Some items are always free, including contraception and medicines prescribed for hospital inpatients.
If you get prescriptions for hormone replacment therapy (HRT), you may save more with the HRT PPC.
